PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE<\/strong><\/p>\n

August finds Los Angeles in another hot spell, its not the heat it\u2019s the humidity.\u00a0We always hear its not \u00a0 hot in Los Angeles, it\u2019s a dry heat, its still hot. Watering more often and increasing the duration of the watering cycle or the time it takes to water is just another step in the bonsai process.\u00a0The process of watering is one of the most important topics in a bonsai enthusiast’s\u00a0task toolkit.\u00a0Every tree has a unique need, where you live, what is the weather like, what is your water quality, what is your soil mix, do your trees like overhead watering, santa ana winds, so many variables and yet they all need to be watered.\u00a0Watering is not something you learn overnight, its not a task you can pick up from youtube but it is something you can gain knowledge just by doing it.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Keeping your trees cool, starts with watering but you can add shade cloth, you can cover the pots with styrfoam, bury your trees in sand or double potting your trees.\u00a0 I know of people who wrap their pots in aluminum foil.\u00a0 There are many inventive ways to keep your trees cool.<\/p>\n

This month we have the opportunity to work with one of the most knowledgeable bonsai artists of his generation, Pedro Morales. \u00a0 Take this opportunity to broaden your knowledge with a true artist and the founding father of bonsai in Puerto Rico.<\/p>\n
