PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
I want to start with, it was great to see all the southern California bonsai members volunteering, visiting, shopping, and spending time at the Pacific Bonsai Expo event this past month. I hope everyone had a great time, purchased a treasure, and maybe ate at a few new and exciting restaurants. The show was pretty spectacular showcasing beautiful trees in a wonderful setting, and providing the opportunity to visit with bonsai practitioners from all across the country and a few world travelers as well. If you didn’t notice, our members CJ and Mark Levinstein were running all over the place and doing anything needed to help get the show running. Let’s give CJ and Mark a big thank you.

This month, our demonstrator is CBS Visiting artist Elle Nieto-Brodnick. Elle Nieto-Brodnick discovered the passion of bonsai appreciation and cultivation during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic while working in the healthcare industry. She started educating herself via online videos and literature. Her voracious quest for learning led her to attend workshops and classes under Todd Schlafer, Andy Smith, Owen Reich, and Will Baddeley. Within her three years of practice and under the tutelage of Bjorn Bjorholm and Mauro Stemberger, she remains a motivated student who reveals an exceptional perception of bonsai aspirations. She has done what is necessary to further her study, improve her skills, and develop her character traits reflective of a disciplined and committed bonsai practitioner. Teaching basic to intermediate bonsai at The Hidden Gardens with groups of fellow practitioners has pivoted her from being a serious student to an upcoming bonsai professional/artist.
We will be also offering a Bring Your Own Tree Workshop with Elle in Torrance, the day of the meeting. Elle can assist you with the styling and creation of you material. Cost is $75 and lunch will be provided. Contact Doyle to reserve your spot today!
