PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
May is always a busy time for us at Dai Ichi Bonsai Kai. We have a show and a meeting to arrange, prepare, and execute for the club members and general public. May 10-11 is our annual show and sale, I have a few spots remaining if you want to show a tree. The beginner’s workshop is Saturday morning and we are still looking for some instructors, at least 15 students to cover, it will be a bonsai fun day. The headliner demonstration will be provided by Jeff Sczechowski. Jeff is the past president of the Bonsai Club of Santa Barbara and will be working on a native from Australia. Jeff will also be presenting a slide demonstration of native trees from Australia, the creator of the slide show is Hugh and Eve Grant, owners of “Tree Makers Design” of Australia. Come out and support the club!
Saturday night will be our annual dinner and auction/raffle. If your a member of our club or any club In the area come on down for a fun time and a great meal. If you want to bring an item, salads, snacks, a main dish, or even a dessert more food is always welcome.
Hailing from Hamburg, Germany, Heike van Gunst has had an long and illustrious career in bonsai. In 2007 she founded a new local club, the Bonsai AK Hamburg & Umland. She also joined the team of the German BONSAI ART magazine in 2013 and became the chief editor in 2016. Heike has traveled the world teaching workshops and demonstrating her Bonsai skills.
